PhD, MD. M (Marcel) Veltkamp

Dr. Marcel Veltkamp (1976) is a Pulmonologist (MD) and Medical Biologist (MSc) working at the ILD Center of Excellence of the St. Antonius Hospital. He also participates as a clinician in the combined Lungtransplantation program of het St. Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein and the University Medical Center Utrecht. During his specialist training he worked in the St. Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein, University Medical Center Utrecht and the ILD clinic of the University Medical Center Leuven (Belgium). 
His scientific career started in 1998 while working on the Leucocyte-Associated Immunoglobulin-like Receptor (LAIR) in the lab of prof. dr. J.C. Clevers. In 2011 he received a PhD-degree after completion of his thesis on genetics of Toll-like Receptors in sarcoidosis. In 2013 he started working as a pulmonologist at the ILD Center of Excellence in Nieuwegein.  In addition to clinical care for patients with interstitial lung diseases dr. Veltkamp is responsible for the ILD education program within the Center of Excellence. He participates in several scientific projects within the ILD research group with a special internist in etiology, inflammatory phenotyping and different treatment modalities in Sarcoidosis as well as diagnosing small fiber neuropathy. Furthermore, he is also interested in new treatment options for patients with pulmonary fibrosis and Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP).  Dr. Veltkamp is board member of the Netherlands Respiratory Society (NRS) and the World Association of Sarcoidosis and Other Granulomatous disorders (WASOG). Within the European Respiratory Society (ERS) he is secretary of the assembly group 12.03 on Sarcoidosis and other granulomatous ILD.
